Coast Guard Enhances Matsu Maritime Patrols Ahead of Dragon Boat Festival, Combating Smuggling and African Swine Fever

The Coast Guard's 11th Patrol Division initiated a joint extensive crackdown operation on the 24th, reinforcing maritime and coastal patrols in the Matsu area. As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the Coast Guard mobilized hundreds of personnel and land/sea equipment to prevent illegal border crossings, smuggling, and the threat of African Swine Fever.

This operation is coordinated by the 11th Division, integrating multiple agencies including the Kinmen, Matsu, and Ponghu Detachment, the Lienchiang investigation team, and local police. The focus is on comprehensive crackdowns across Matsu's four townships and five islands. Six patrol vessels, 13 patrol cars, and 8 motorcycles were deployed, with 92 personnel engaged in enforcement, targeting hotspots such as ports, abandoned houses along the coast, and wave-dissipating blocks, along with increasing cargo inspection rates to curb illegal entries.

Since the beginning of the year, the Coast Guard has driven off 668 illegally crossing vessels and discovered 6 cases of smuggling in Matsu waters. Chief Hong Wenquan emphasized the vastness of Matsu's waters and the prevalence of illegal activities during nighttime, urging the public to report any suspicious activities by dialing 118 for the Coast Guard service, thereby aiding in the protection of maritime and societal safety.
