Taiwan Set to Become Asia's First African Swine Fever-Free Nation with Expansion Prospects in Singapore and Japan

The Ministry of Agriculture has announced that Taiwan is expected to receive the "African Swine Fever-Free" certificate at the WOAH conference this week. If successful, Taiwan will be the only country in Asia recognized as free from African Swine Fever, Foot-and-Mouth Disease, and the three major swine diseases.

Since Taiwan has not reported any cases of swine fever since last May, the country applied for this certification. Once recognized, Taiwanese pork will be better positioned to enter advanced markets like Singapore and Japan.

The Ministry stated that the Pig Raising Association looks forward to this certification boosting local pork sales potential. Currently, Taiwanese fresh pork sells for NT$700 per kilogram in Singapore, and NT$500 per kilogram for ribs, highlighting strong market demand.
