President Lai Attends European Dinner and Thanks EU for Supporting Peace in the Taiwan Strait

President Lai Ching-te attended the 2025 European dinner this evening, emphasizing Taiwan's cooperation with Europe and other democratic nations to create a 'non-red supply chain.' Lai noted that the red supply chain threatens to disrupt market mechanisms and poses a risk to the international community, and Taiwan aims to propose a 'Global Semiconductor Democratic Supply Chain Partnership Initiative' to play a key role in the restructuring of the global democratic supply chain.
Lai pointed out that Europe is Taiwan's third-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching $84.7 billion last year, reflecting a high level of trust between businesses on both sides. He expressed hope for further institutionalized trade and investment relations with Europe and called for the signing of a Taiwan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement to provide a more transparent and stable business environment.
The President mentioned that Taiwan, with its democratic system and crucial semiconductor industry, can play an essential role in the restructuring of global supply chains. He reiterated that Taiwan will actively collaborate with democratic countries, building a resilient and potential 'non-red supply chain,' and said this initiative goes beyond economic cooperation, representing a alliance based on shared values and advanced technology.
This year's dinner also celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration. President Lai stated that, in the face of current geopolitical challenges and significant economic fluctuations, the Schuman Declaration remains inspirational. He emphasized Taiwan's ongoing commitment to enhancing cooperation with democratic partners regarding security in the Taiwan Strait and regional peace and stability. He thanked the EU and various countries for their concrete actions in publicly supporting peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, deeming these actions critical to regional security and prosperity.
