With 30% Nuclear Power, Switzerland Achieves 98% Carbon-Free Electricity; Tong Tzu-Hsien Urges Taiwan to Take Inspiration

Following the decommissioning of the Nuclear Plant No. 3, Taiwan faces challenges in energy restructuring. Tong Tzu-Hsien, chairman of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., suggests that Taiwan should adopt a nuclear-green coexistence approach due to its limited renewable energy resources.
Tong emphasizes that despite both Taiwan and Switzerland sharing similar geographic conditions, Switzerland achieves a remarkable 98% carbon-free electricity through 30% nuclear energy and stable hydropower. He notes that Germany, after abandoning nuclear energy, has had to rely on coal, which has increased its carbon emissions significantly.
He advocates for Taiwan to adopt a '334' energy ratio: 30% renewable energy, 30% nuclear energy, and 40% fossil fuels, positioning Taiwan as the 'Eastern Switzerland'.
