Poland's Presidential Election Second Round: Conservative Candidate Nawroczki Takes the Lead

In Poland's presidential election second round, conservative Law and Justice Party candidate Nawroczki waved to supporters. Despite trailing slightly in the initial exit polls to the liberal candidate from the ruling party, Sosnowski, Nawroczki remained optimistic, declaring, "Dear everyone, do not lose hope tonight. We will win this election; the gap is very small."
The second round of voting is scheduled for the 1st, where Sosnowski, the mayor of Warsaw representing the ruling centrist Civic Coalition, announced himself as the winner after the exit poll suggested he was slightly ahead. This announcement uplifted supporters, who claimed the election results preserved Poland's democratic values.
However, the counting results took a turn as the rates of both candidates remained very close. Law and Justice Party member Kantak stated, "Our projections indicate a very close result, but I feel we'll win. If you look at the polling throughout the election, you can see that Sosnowski's support is declining while Nawroczki's is rising."
The 42-year-old Nawroczki is a historian and an amateur boxer, who received support from U.S. President Donald Trump before the election. He promises to prioritize Polish citizens in his governance, supports Ukraine, but opposes Poland joining NATO to avoid provoking Russia, and advocates a certain distance from the EU.
This election result is viewed as a referendum on Prime Minister Tusk's governance and brings a boost to the Law and Justice Party in their quest for the 2027 parliamentary elections.
