Pornhub Halts Service in France Over New Age Verification Law

Popular adult video sites Pornhub, Youporn, and RedTube have decided to suspend operations in France in protest against the French government's newly introduced age verification law. Their parent company Aylo argues that this law not only poses operational challenges but also exposes users to potential personal data leakage risks.
According to a report from The Guardian, the French government plans to implement new age verification requirements starting in 2025, mandating that all users verify their age through credit cards or ID numbers before accessing adult sites. Aylo claims this approach is ineffective and wasteful, increasing the risk of personal information breaches. They believe the government should focus on regulating system developers instead of placing this burden on them.
In response, French Culture Minister Aurore Berge stated that if Pornhub and its partner sites choose to sever services for French users rather than comply with the law, it makes it harder for minors to access violent and degrading content. Additionally, reports indicate that each month, up to 2.3 million minors ignore warnings and visit adult sites. Aylo also mentioned that they will include images of the famous painting *Liberty Leading the People* by Eugène Delacroix with their messages to satirize the government's actions.
