36 Years After Tiananmen: The Disappearance of Freedom-Seeking Spirits Among Chinese Youth

Three decades after the Tiananmen Square incident of 1989, this event has become known as 'May 35' in China and is no longer openly discussed. The young people who once sought democratic freedom have been covered up in the ashes of history by the Chinese Communist Party. Today's Chinese university students have hopes and expectations that are vastly different from those of thirty years ago.
Youth unemployment is worsening year by year, leaving many students feeling powerless and anxious about the future. Consequently, some choose to stay in their rooms all day, immersed in their phones and living a life of a 'mouse person' where daily needs are taken care of in isolation.
