US Senator Assures Help for Taiwanese Students Amid Visa Ban

Reporter Zhang Yazhu/Taiwan - US Report
(Right) Hello Taiwan's Executive Director Jiang Mingxin accompanied US Senator Tammy Duckworth on her visit to Taiwan last month, meeting with various experts.
Upon returning to the US, Jiang Mingxin actively engaged with pro-Taiwan members of Congress to discuss the Trump administration's recent international student visa ban. He noted that many Taiwanese students are anxious about their future studies in the US and emphasized the need for timely responses and assistance.
The tightening of visa policies under the Trump administration has led to increased denials of F-1 visa applications, exacerbated by a recent announcement to suspend global international student visa interviews for F-1, J-1, and M-1 visas, citing national security concerns. This has left many students either already studying in the US or considering studying there, feeling uncertain about pursuing their education in America.
During his meetings with lawmakers, Jiang engaged with representatives Tim Kennedy and Katherine Clark, both of whom expressed their strong opposition to the visa ban. Kennedy highlighted the adverse impact this policy would have not only on university revenues but also on the learning opportunities for Taiwanese students, committing to introducing corrective motions in Congress.
