African Swine Fever Detected in Drifted Pig Found in Kinmen; Agriculture Ministry Prohibits Exports to Taiwan

A drifted dead pig was discovered at Jinning Cizi Beach in Kinmen on June 14, subsequently confirmed by health authorities to contain African Swine Fever virus. In response, the Ministry of Agriculture announced a ban on the export of pigs and related products from Kinmen to Taiwan and its outlying islands from now until June 23.
The health authorities quickly took samples and incinerated the carcass after receiving a notification from the Coast Guard. The test results showed that the virus found was 100% similar to the strain circulating in mainland China. To protect the pig farming industry, the Ministry plans to include certain approved suppliers in a list for continued exports.
