Major Eruption of Indonesia's Lewotobi Volcano Sends Ash Plumes Over 10,000 Meters

The Lewotobi volcano, located in the central Sunda Islands of Indonesia, erupted massively around 5:30 PM local time on the 17th. The ash plume reached over 10,000 meters, and the activity is still ongoing.

During the eruption, ash mixed with rocks forced local residents to evacuate urgently to escape the falling debris. Eyewitnesses captured footage of a giant mushroom cloud as the ash spread, visible even several kilometers away.

According to Indonesian authorities, the Lewotobi volcano remains at a level three alert. Data from seismographs recorded a maximum amplitude of 47.3 millimeters, lasting about 6 minutes and 53 seconds. This year in April, the volcano also experienced a major eruption.
