EETO Director Lutz Güllner Visits the Ministry of Justice to Discuss Human Rights and Judicial Cooperation

Minister of Justice Deputy Secretary Xu Xixiang received Lutz Güllner, Director of the European Economic and Trade Office (EETO), along with other representatives, to discuss topics including promoting human rights protection, the Convention Against Torture, death penalty policies, and Taiwan-European judicial cooperation. The Ministry emphasized shared values of democracy and human rights between Taiwan and Europe, planning to deepen collaborations through diverse platforms and modernize the criminal justice system.

The Ministry briefed EU representatives on Taiwan's progress in implementing international covenants on civil and political rights, as well as economic, social, and cultural rights. The Ministry also stressed the inclusion of civil society in the drafting of national reports for international reviews. Following the fourth civil review in 113 years, it plans to involve civil representatives and international experts in the upcoming review in 115. Regarding concerns about torture, the Ministry specified the responsibilities of public servants for abuse.

They discussed strengthening criminal justice collaboration between Taiwan and Europe, particularly in digital crime investigation and acquiring electronic evidence. The Ministry looks forward to continuing to deepen exchanges and cooperation in the future.
