A wife was reported missing overnight and was later found dead in the car of a neighbor. According to reports, a mainland Chinese man named Ma Chong (pseudonym) returned home one night only to find that his wife, Liu Yan (pseudonym), hadn’t come home. Subsequently, he filed a missing person report. The next day, Liu's body was discovered in the SUV of another local man, Luo.

After the incident, Ma learned about his wife's long-term illicit relationship with Luo. He stated that they had lived in Liuyang City, Hunan Province, and both were born in 1978. On July 16, Ma grew concerned when Liu didn’t return home. After searching all night without finding her, he reported her missing on the morning of July 17. That afternoon, police found her body in Luo's vehicle, and Luo was soon apprehended.

The prosecution argued that Luo had been involved with Liu since 2021, and their relationship became strained over time. On July 16, around 8 PM, Luo invited Liu out to meet, where they engaged in a sexual act. Afterward, Liu requested to be driven around, but after Luo refused, an argument ensued. Luo then choked her for about four to five minutes and, upon noticing she was still alive, continued to suffocate her until she died. Luo then planned to dispose of her body, attempting to make it appear as though it was a suicide.
