Record Number of Americans Apply for UK Citizenship Following Trump's Inauguration

According to the latest data from the UK Home Office, over 6,600 American citizens applied for UK citizenship or residence rights in the 12 months leading to March 2023, marking the highest figure since 2004.

In the first quarter of 2023, from January to March, more than 1,900 Americans applied, setting a record for a single quarter. The Guardian reports that this trend is closely linked to President Trump's inauguration.

Immigration lawyers have noted an increase in consultations for UK residency among Americans, especially following the U.S. elections, with many citizens already in the UK considering dual citizenship. However, experts caution that the rise in American applications may not solely be due to the political climate under President Trump, as applications from citizens of other countries are also on the rise.
