Mbappé Wins First European Golden Shoe, Ending La Liga Season with 31 Goals

Although he could not help Real Madrid win any trophies, French forward Kylian Mbappé won his first European Golden Shoe on Saturday, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad.
In his first season in La Liga, Mbappé netted 31 goals and also secured the title of top scorer in La Liga. Thanks to his brace in the final match of the season, he topped the standings with 62 points, surpassing Portugal Sports' Victor Gyokeres (39 goals) and Liverpool's Mohamed Salah (29 goals).
While Gyokeres outscored him by 8 goals, he settled for second place with 58.5 points due to the weighted scoring system of the European Golden Shoe. Salah, who needed a hat-trick against Crystal Palace to share the honor with Mbappé, managed only one goal and finished third with 58 points.
Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane followed in fourth and fifth place with 54 and 52 points, respectively.
Mbappé became the third Real Madrid player to earn this honor, following Hugo Sánchez (1989-90 season) and Cristiano Ronaldo (who won three times). Gyokeres, rumored to transfer to Arsenal, missed a chance to surpass him, but he scored in the Portuguese Cup final against Benfica, ending the season with a remarkable 53 goals in 51 matches across all competitions.
