Wang Huning Meets Hong Xiuzhu Emphasizing the Importance of One China Principle and 1992 Consensus

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, met with former chairperson of the Kuomintang and Chairman of the Chinese Young Eagles Peace Education Foundation, Hong Xiuzhu, in Beijing on May 27. He reiterated the necessity for both sides of the Taiwan Strait to uphold the One China principle and the '1992 Consensus' following the conclusion of the second 'Cross-Strait Chinese Culture Summit'.

Wang emphasized that Chinese culture serves as the spiritual lifeblood of the Chinese nation and a common spiritual home for both sides. Quoting Xi Jinping, he noted that pride in the Chinese nation and culture unites the people and bestows a shared responsibility on both sides. He called for promoting cultural exchanges and cooperation across various fields to foster a sense of national responsibility and achieve national rejuvenation.

He also highlighted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of both the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japan and the liberation of Taiwan, stating the importance of adhering to the One China principle and the '1992 Consensus' while firmly opposing Taiwan independence. Hong Xiuzhu and other Taiwanese guests expressed their confidence in Chinese culture and commitment to cross-strait unity.
