Taiwanese Girls Make Cloth Sanitary Pads to Support African Women's Menstrual Rights

May 28th is recognized as 'World Menstrual Hygiene Day', highlighting the importance of menstrual health. The Social Affairs Bureau of Taichung City provides free sanitary pads at 111 social welfare centers across the city, distributing over 40,000 pads in the last three years. To promote menstrual equality, the girls from the Taichung Daughters' Pavilion handcrafted cloth sanitary pads to give to women in Africa, raising awareness about menstrual health.

The Bureau stated that many women in Africa are unable to afford disposable pads due to resource and economic constraints. This initiative aims to improve their quality of life while promoting the use of reusable pads that align with the United Nations' sustainable development and environmental goals.

In the future, these girls will also use AI tools to create an electronic picture book on menstrual equality, showcasing gender equality awareness and STEM learning achievements.
