Chinese Taiwan Affairs Office Responds to Lai Ching-te's 520th Anniversary Speech: Taiwan's Status as Part of China Cannot Change

Spokesperson Chen Binhua of China's Taiwan Affairs Office responded strongly to Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te's remarks during his 520th anniversary speech, stating that no matter how Lai expresses himself, it does not alter the fact that Taiwan is part of China.
In his address, Lai announced the establishment of a fund to promote Taiwan's economic development and plans to brief the opposition party on national security issues. Chen asserted that Lai continues to uphold a 'Taiwan independence' stance and stirs up cross-strait tensions.
He emphasized that 'Taiwan independence' actions are incompatible with peace across the Taiwan Strait, calling for Taiwan to cease provocative actions and recognize that both sides belong to one China as a basis for dialogue. Moreover, Chen highlighted that Taiwan must understand that the mainland will firmly adhere to the one-China principle while actively expanding exchanges and cooperation to advance the process of national unification.
