Germany Offers Major Military Aid to Ukraine, Russia Threatens Retaliation

As Russia’s 50,000 troops gather in Sumy for a potential attack, Ukrainian President Zelensky visited Germany and secured €5 billion in military aid. Germany plans not only to support Ukraine in producing long-range weapons but may also supply the Taurus cruise missile, which has a range of over 500 kilometers. Russia has vehemently condemned the move, warning that it amounts to direct involvement in the conflict.

Meanwhile, in northeastern Ukraine, the city of Kharkiv continues to suffer drone strikes from Russian forces, resulting in one civilian death and eight injuries. The Ukrainian army is utilizing self-developed 155mm self-propelled guns to strengthen their defense against Russian troops.

New German Chancellor Merz has expressed strong support for Ukraine and announced this substantial military aid package at a press conference. While Germany has not disclosed specific weapon details, the action has already provoked a strong response from Russia. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov has made it clear that Germany's actions are directly involved in the conflict, while the U.S. has stated that assessing Russia's intentions remains challenging.
