English National Ballet Teams Up with Akram Khan for the World Premiere of Giselle at Taichung National Opera House

The 2025 NTT Arts NOVA features the English National Ballet collaborating with renowned choreographer Akram Khan to present Giselle at the Taichung National Opera House on May 24 and 25. This production is hailed as a pinnacle of Khan's artistic career and one of the greatest masterpieces of the century.

This tour marks the first time an international dance company performs in Taiwan, with senior dancer Erina Takahashi saying goodbye to her ballet career during this 20th show. Takahashi expressed that the company feels like family, and she intends to become a trainer, nurturing young dancers in the future.

Khan's reinterpretation of Giselle premiered in 2016 and has since received numerous accolades, including prestigious dance awards. The artistic director of English National Ballet emphasized the diverse possibilities of ballet, noting that the show has been performed in 12 countries, attracting over 180,000 viewers.

Takahashi mentioned that this new version of Giselle resonates with more strength and emotional depth. Designer Yu Jin-Tien also took part in this production, blending traditional elements with modern aesthetics to create a distinct visual experience.

Additionally, the Taichung National Opera House provides friendly guide services to encourage more public engagement in the arts. Workshop activities will also share the power of dance with dementia patients.
