US Military to Deploy Patrol Aircraft to Support South Korea Amid P-3CK Grounding

Recently, a P-3CK anti-submarine aircraft belonging to the South Korean Navy crashed, resulting in all similar aircraft being grounded for inspections. According to reports from the Korea News Agency, the United States and South Korea are discussing the deployment of US military patrol aircraft to fill the operational gap during this period and maintain security on the Korean Peninsula.
Following the incident, all 16 P-3CK aircraft of the South Korean Navy have been grounded. The US military has expressed its willingness to send patrol aircraft to assist with related missions and provide intelligence support. On February 2, Lee Sung-jun, director of the Public Affairs Office of the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed at a press conference that the US and South Korea have begun negotiations to send Indo-Pacific Command patrol aircraft to South Korea. Additionally, the South Korean P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft is expected to commence readiness operations in July.
