Airbnb Partners with Japanese Nonprofits to Provide Emergency Shelters Within 24 Hours of Disasters

Airbnb's nonprofit organization Airbnb.org has announced a collaboration with Japanese nonprofits to provide emergency shelter within 24 hours after natural disasters occur in Japan. This new service marks Airbnb's first global initiative of this kind, partnering with organizations like Peace Boat Disaster Relief Center, Japan Platform, and Peace Winds Japan. They will offer shelter in selected areas across all 47 prefectures to those affected by major natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis.
Since its establishment in 2020, Airbnb.org has assisted over 250,000 individuals in finding temporary housing and has facilitated over 1.6 million nights of accommodation. All accommodations provided through Airbnb.org will be free for evacuees.
