Tainan City and Poland's Łódź City Formally Become Sister Cities

Tainan City and Poland’s Łódź City officially became sister cities on the sixth, represented by Mayor Huang Wei-cher and Mayor Hanna Zdanowska. Deputy Mayor Chao Ching-hui and other distinguished guests attended the significant ceremony.

The partnership originates from a collaborative food production line established by Tainan's Chi Mei Food and a Polish food company in Łódź, laying a solid foundation through civic exchanges. During a visit to Europe last September, Huang had met with Łódź’s deputy mayor, and in February this year, the deputy mayor of Łódź visited Tainan for industry exchanges.

Huang expressed gratitude for the assistance from the Polish Taipei Economic and Cultural Office and Chi Mei Foods, hoping that the relationship will continue to deepen across cultural, educational, tourism, and business sectors. He also announced the naming of a newly established road as "Łódź Road" to commemorate this sister city friendship, reflecting his admiration for Łódź's rich history of over 600 years.

Zdanowska noted that the cooperation between Łódź and Tainan has already been driven by private enterprises, making the formal agreement even more symbolic. She hopes to share Łódź's culture with Tainan and encourages the younger generation to engage in more international exchanges.

Łódź is Poland's third-largest city, situated at the center of the country, less than two hours' drive from the capital Warsaw, and is a major logistics hub in Europe.
