U.S. Chamber of Commerce Urges Taiwan to Prioritize Energy Issues, Criticizes Tariffs as Unfair

The Taiwan American Chamber of Commerce officially released its "2025 Taiwan White Paper" today (10th), offering recommendations for U.S.-Taiwan relations and voicing concerns over tariff issues faced by Taiwan. The chamber emphasized that "stable, reliable, and clean energy supply is crucial for attracting foreign investment."

The white paper noted that new tariffs imposed on Taiwanese goods and proposed measures are unfair, raising costs for U.S. businesses and consumers, and it called for continued bipartisan support for Taiwan’s defense from the U.S. government.

Chairman Dan Silver pointed out that a recent business survey indicated that the Taiwanese government should prioritize solving energy issues over the next 1-3 years. He suggested that Taiwan should adopt emerging technologies to enhance power supply and maintain an open attitude towards various energy sources.

Additionally, the chamber advocates for the U.S. government to strengthen defense support for Taiwan, ensuring timely delivery of approved military sales, and promoting deeper participation of Taiwanese businesses in the U.S. defense supply chain. The chamber also encourages the resumption of cabinet-level visits from U.S. officials to Taiwan to promote substantial cooperation in trade, energy, and healthcare.

Finally, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce calls for U.S. support for Taiwan's participation in international organizations, underscoring that Taiwan's exclusion hampers global cooperation and poses unnecessary risks to the health and safety of 23 million Taiwanese people.
