US-Japan-Taiwan Drill Highlights Risk of Chinese Surprise Landing in Eastern Taiwan, Penghu Falls

The 'Taiwan Strait Defense Drill' concluded today (11th) with a scenario depicting a full-scale invasion by China, notably choosing to land in Taiwan's eastern region, leading to the fall of Penghu, dubbed 'Taiwan's gateway.' According to the scenario, communication was entirely cut off in the first operational area, and US intelligence confirmed that Penghu had been occupied by the enemy, with large numbers of helicopters and drones sighted.

The Chinese Defense Ministry emphasized that the objective was to promote unification by force, showcasing advancements in military capability and technology, while reconfiguring operational strategies. Officials noted that the eastern landing was selected due to its weak defenses, allowing a swift assault that Taiwan could not anticipate.

Taiwan's chief moderator, General Hu Chengpu, indicated that losing Penghu, a critical strategic position for Taiwan, would severely impact the defense of the main island, facilitating continuous logistical support from the enemy.
