Zhuo Rongtai Meets with Mayors of 5 Counties and Cities, Additional Budget Requires Local and Legislative Support

On the 11th, Executive Yuan spokesperson Li Huizhi announced that Executive Yuan President Zhuo Rongtai held a meeting with Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Qimai, Tainan Mayor Huang Weizhe, Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Zhangliang, Pingtung County Magistrate Zhou Chunmi, and Penghu County Magistrate Chen Guangfu to discuss financial issues between the central and local governments.
All participating local leaders expressed their hopes to resolve the financial difficulties faced by both the central government and local authorities after the Legislative Yuan significantly cut the overall budget through an additional budget proposal. Li cited Zhuo's gratitude towards Chen for gathering local leaders to collectively express the needs and expectations of local governments, emphasizing that the additional budget proposal needs the support of both local governments and legislators to pass through the Legislative Yuan review.
Li also noted that discussions included the unfair allocation of resources under the new financial planning law, which may exacerbate the urban-rural divide. Balancing Taiwan is a key policy goal of President Lai Ching-te and has been the focus of Zhuo’s policies, with the promotion of six major regional industry living circles aimed at realizing this vision. The Executive Yuan will carefully consider the suggestions put forth by local leaders and work together with local governments to address the challenges posed by the overall budget and the financial planning law.
