South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, in his first week in office, actively initiated dialogues with foreign leaders, meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinjirō Koizumi before holding a 30-minute phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday. During this call, Yoon officially invited Xi to visit South Korea in November for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju. This invitation is considered a crucial step toward warming ties between South Korea and China.
Yoon expressed his hope to deepen cooperation with China in areas such as economy, security, and culture. Xi responded positively, agreeing to enhance exchanges in various fields to foster goodwill among the peoples of both nations. Yoon also looks forward to further discussions on bilateral relations during the APEC summit.
