Air India Crash: Two Survivors Found as Boeing Shares Plunge Nearly 8%

A crash occurred in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, western India, this afternoon (12th) at around 1:17 PM. An Air India flight carrying 242 passengers crashed shortly after takeoff from the local international airport, with two survivors currently confirmed.

The flight, AI171, was scheduled to fly to London, England, when it crashed in a residential area near the airport shortly after takeoff. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced it will investigate the incident, dispatching a team of experts to India. Boeing stated it is gathering relevant information and has contacted Air India to provide all necessary support.

The Boeing 787 is one of the company's most modern wide-body aircraft and had previously not recorded any accidents; this is its first crash. Following the incident, Boeing shares plunged nearly 8% during pre-market trading but recovered slightly after opening, resulting in a final drop of 4.13%. Additionally, shares of GE Aerospace, which manufactures the engine for the 787, dropped about 3%.
