Han Kuang 41 Exercise: Defending Against Enemy Landings on Taichung's Dajia Beach

The Han Kuang 41 exercise has entered its fifth day, with the engineering units of the fifth operational zone conducting ‘Beach and Access Road Denial’ training in the Taichung area. Soldiers operated equipment to establish HESCO (HESCO) defensive works to simulate resistance against enemy landings. Today's exercises focused on mimicking enemy forces attempting to launch an assault from the beach, with the ROC military setting up a series of multi-layered defenses to halt enemy advancement.

During the exercise, the engineering units used wave-dissipating blocks and anti-tank ditches, aiming to delay enemy landing forces' arrival while effectively destroying their landing craft and tanks, thus buying time for the defending troops to react and reinforce. Various barriers, including containers and concertina wire, were also set up along the access roads with the main goal of preventing enemy ingress and luring them into predicted elimination zones.

This year's introduction of HESCO defensive structures has attracted significant attention due to their rapid deployment capabilities. They can be configured to form a barrier wall in as little as 20 minutes by two soldiers with a piece of machinery, significantly enhancing efficiency compared to traditional sandbags. The exercise was conducted by the Army's 52nd Engineering Group, enhancing troops' adaptability in complex battlefield environments and bolstering national defense capabilities.
