Surprises at the Korea Open: Yoo Sung-kyu Takes the Lead

This year's Kolon Korea Open presented by ELORD took place at La Vie Est Belle Golf Club, where the challenging Dunes Course resembles the U.S. Open level of difficulty. South Korean golfer Yoo Sung-kyu shot rounds of 68 and 67, totaling 135, which puts him seven strokes under par and in the lead.

After the first 36 holes, Yoo only dropped three strokes, making just one bogey on the second hole while carding five birdies. Thai golfer Poom Saksansin improved from 69 to 68 strokes, trailing by two strokes in second place.

The tournament will provide two entry tickets to the British Open this Sunday afternoon, continuing the trend of surprises. Although Yujun Jung, who qualified through the qualifiers, drew attention yesterday, he fell back with a score of 76 today, tying for tenth place at one stroke under par. Yoo expressed confidence in his performance and intends to maintain a strong mindset as he focuses on the greens.

The international contingent led by the Thai duo of Saksansin and Sadom Kaewkanjana performed well, with Saksansin achieving back-to-back rounds under par for a total of five strokes under par to rank third, while Kaewkanjana submitted two rounds of 69.

Australian player Jed Morgan managed a 72, yet his prior 67 keeps him tied for fourth with local player GiWhan Kim.
