Trump Criticizes Harvard Students' Basic Math Skills, DHS Suspends University’s International Student Program

U.S. President Donald Trump recently expressed dissatisfaction with Harvard University students, criticizing their lack of basic math skills, even referencing "2+2" as an example. He stated that many of the students admitted to Harvard need remedial math courses and questioned how such students are accepted into the university.

Additionally, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on the 22nd the termination of the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) certification for Harvard, effectively prohibiting the university from admitting international students. This decision will take effect in the 2025-2026 academic year, requiring existing international students to transfer to other institutions within a specified timeframe.

Trump believes Harvard fosters violence and anti-Semitism, arguing that the U.S. should not provide funding to such institutions. He also mentioned that the government is reviewing international admissions policies for other schools, citing Harvard's receipt of billions of dollars in aid and its massive endowment, questioning the fairness of such funding allocations.

In response to Trump's administration's policies, Harvard University has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government, and a federal judge has temporarily halted the prohibition on Harvard's admission of international students.
