Two Minnesota State Legislators Shot, Suspected Political Assassination

A recent shooting incident in Minnesota has left two Democratic state legislators and their spouses injured at their homes in the suburbs of Minneapolis. Authorities are investigating the incident which involves State Senator John Hoffman and former House Speaker Melissa Hortman, both Democrats. Hortman and her husband have unfortunately passed away.
Local police have issued a shelter-in-place order for residents within a three-mile radius of the Edinborough Golf Course. Governor Tim Walz has activated the state emergency action center and is on-site addressing the situation. Walz is also known as the running mate of Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris for the 2024 US presidential election.
According to reports, the Hortmans were fatally shot in their home in Brooklyn Park, while Senator Hoffman and his wife were shot at their home in Champlin. Both were seriously injured and taken to the hospital, where they underwent surgery and remain in critical condition. Investigators suspect that this was a politically motivated assassination, with reports indicating that the assailant posed as law enforcement.
