Hu Zhiqiang Calls for Space for Lu Xiuyuan to Consider Party Chair Position

The Kuomintang is set to hold elections for its party chair this year, with rumors that Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyuan is interested in running. Former Taichung Mayor Hu Zhiqiang stated in an interview that he hopes everyone can give Lu some space, believing she will consider the decision carefully and not make a hasty call.
During a recent book launch, Hu addressed the absence of party chair Zhu Lilun, suggesting it may be due to Zhu's commitments against a recall vote. He expressed understanding that many invited may not be able to attend due to their busy schedules.
Hu clarified that he would not push Lu to run but is open to discussing it when she feels ready. He emphasized the need for patience and allowing her time and space to make a wise decision.
Regarding Zhu's recent mention of a recall of President Lai Ching-te, Hu admitted he did not fully understand the situation but noted the difficulties faced by the Kuomintang and the need for proactive measures to save the party’s future. He reaffirmed that the party needed to be bold in their actions and not merely focus on their own interests.
