Low Attendance at Legislative Meeting! Han Kuo-yu's Humorous Thanks Draws Laughter

As the one-year anniversary of the legislative power reform approaches, the DPP legislative caucus reviewed the state of the National Assembly over the past year, accusing the alliance of the KMT and the TPP of causing disorder in democratic processes, labeling Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu as a "three-box speaker" and criticizing him for unfair proceedings and frequent closed-door votes that have raised doubts about order in the chamber.

During the meeting on the 27th, Han Kuo-yu humorously thanked the few members present, and while he mistakenly struck the gavel, causing laughter from the audience, it failed to mitigate the opposing political atmosphere. DPP legislator Chung Chia-pin criticized Han for biased proceedings, stating he has trapped legislation in "black box," "freezer," and "emergency box" scenarios. DPP legislator Wu Si-yao harshly condemned the legislature's shift from expansion of power to financial grabs, claiming it resembles an ongoing democratic coup.

Legislator Shen Po-yang questioned the transparency of the bill review process, noting significant discrepancies between proposals and the final reading versions. In the face of the DPP's fire, the opposition KMT retaliated, arguing that the DPP's unwillingness to accept checks and balances leads to their opposition to reforms. Legislator Chen Yu-jen stated that the public's choice clearly expresses a desire for opposition parties to counterbalance the ruling party, urging the DPP to reflect on potential abuse of power rather than blaming legislative chaos on the opposition.

While the political tug-of-war continues to intensify, whether the legislature can return to normal operations depends on cooperation and consensus between the parties to prevent divergence and chaos from becoming the new normal.
