Cultural and Media Summits to Be Held in Beijing, Mainland Affairs Council Denotes Not Simply Cultural Exchange

According to reports, the second "Cross-Strait Chinese Culture Summit" and the sixth "Cross-Strait Media Summit" will take place on May 28 and 29 in Beijing, China. In response, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) stated today (27th) that, "China uses various exchanges to conduct United Front work, which does not help to resolve differences between the two sides and will not gain recognition from Taiwanese society."

The MAC reminded Taiwanese individuals participating in exchanges in China to follow legal regulations to avoid becoming propaganda tools for China's United Front and to jointly safeguard national sovereignty and dignity.

The MAC expressed concern that these summits, branded as cultural and media exchanges, involve bringing Taiwanese media personnel and cultural figures to Beijing for guidance, indicating that this is not merely a cultural and educational exchange and is not welcomed by the government.

The MAC reiterated that cross-strait exchanges should be depoliticized and averse to risks, avoiding political implications. They also emphasized that Taiwanese participants should adhere to government regulations and refrain from independently signing agreements or memorandums with the Chinese side, given the societal sentiment in Taiwan.
