E-commerce Queen Zhou Pinjun Buys $120,000 Designer Bag in Japan Only to Discover It's Empty

Known as the 'E-commerce Queen,' Zhou Pinjun, the former founder of Tokyo's fashion brand, recently faced a series of unfortunate events while purchasing a designer bag worth nearly $120,000 in Ginza, Japan. Miscommunication at checkout resulted in her needing to make two trips for tax refunds, only to realize after leaving the store that the bag's packaging was unusually light, revealing it was empty upon opening.
Initially, she only intended to buy this bag and was led into a small room for checkout. After completing the process, she was taken for tax refund procedures, only to be told upon her return that there had been a pricing error that required her to check out anew. Upon heading downstairs, she noticed the paper bag felt suspiciously light and discovered that it contained only an empty box.
She immediately returned to seek clarification from the staff, who could only apologize, stating they were unaware of how this happened. This incident has altered Zhou's previously held impression of Japanese people's meticulousness in business, especially considering it occurred in a luxury store. While traveling, Zhou often searches for luxury bags, and this incident prompted her to remind other consumers to thoroughly check their purchases before leaving, given that others have had similar experiences. Recently, a customer in Japan spent around $3,000 on a wallet only to find it also came with just a box.
Zhou had traveled to Japan to attend a GD concert, and her near-miss with the empty bag serves as a reminder to always conduct checks prior to departing.
