Writer Mentaiko Shares Her Parenting and Life Experiences in Tokyo

Mentaiko, a renowned writer who has lived in Tokyo for over 13 years, focuses on sharing her experiences in life, culture, and parenting. In an interview with 《Wind Media》, she describes her time in Japan as a "dual-engine lifestyle." As her understanding of Japanese society deepens, she becomes clearer about her own life goals.

Reflecting on her language learning journey, Mentaiko recalls how she initially faced language barriers upon arriving in Japan, eventually achieving N1 proficiency in Japanese and beginning her work at a magazine. During her parenting journey, she experienced cultural shocks, most notably conflicts over educational philosophies with other parents. This experience had a significant impact on both her and her child, prompting her to seek advice at a foreigners' support center.

Mentaiko decided to document this experience and plans to publish her fifth book, focusing on the cultural shocks and challenges faced when her child entered elementary school. This book will delve into the unique challenges of parenting in Japan and the differences with Taiwanese education.

She emphasizes that despite her efforts, completely adapting to Japanese societal values is not possible, and it is crucial to leverage one's strengths and find a truly enjoyable lifestyle.
