Two Japanese Men Murdered in Dalian, Police Emphasize No Anti-Japanese Sentiment

Amid threats of U.S. tariffs, China has ramped up trade cooperation with neighboring countries, leading to a warming of Sino-Japanese relations. However, a shocking incident occurred in Dalian, Liaoning Province, where two Japanese men were killed by a Chinese national. Local police stressed that this was a business dispute, not the anti-Japanese sentiment speculated by outsiders.

According to reports, the incident occurred in May, with the suspect, a 42-year-old Chinese man named Yuan, having lived in Japan for an extended period. He allegedly murdered the two Japanese citizens, who were temporary visitors, on May 23 in Dalian. The police confirmed that the accused has been arrested and stated that this was a case of business conflict rather than anti-Japanese or political motivations. Furthermore, after at least ten days passed since the event, the Dalian Municipal Public Security Bureau only reported this on June 3.

In the backdrop of U.S. tariff threats, China is actively seeking closer ties with neighboring nations, which coincides with the warming of Sino-Japanese relations. BYD plans to launch a new electric light vehicle in Japan next year, priced under 610,000 Taiwanese dollars, aiming to capture the microcar market.
