Italian Nun Zhao Xiurong's Funeral Mass Attended by Yang Wenkai to Express Gratitude
Zhao Xiurong, an Italian nun holding a Taiwanese identity card, passed away on May 30 at the age of 93. Her farewell ceremony, including a funeral mass, was held at the Catholic Cathedral of Hsinchu. Hsinchu County Mayor Yang Wenkai attended to express gratitude for her selfless dedication, especially in the field of education for children in remote areas.
Having served in Hsinchu's Jianshi for over 60 years, Sister Zhao helped countless indigenous children. Besides preaching the gospel, she built churches, established daycare centers, and sewing classes. In 2017, she obtained Taiwanese citizenship. Mayor Yang presented a commendation during the ceremony, praising her lifelong contributions, stating, “She has walked through every mountain village, caring for students and the underprivileged. May she rest in peace.”
