Ma Ying-jeou Insists on Attending Cross-Strait Forum in China, Chien Shu-pei Explains the Reasons

Today, Hsiao Hsu-Tsen, the executive director of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation, confirmed that former President Ma Ying-jeou will lead a delegation to China on the 14th to attend this year's Cross-Strait Forum. Democratic Progressive Party's Taipei City Councilor Chien Shu-pei believes that Ma Ying-jeou is going to China to 'relax' because he was not included in the 'KMT’s anti-recall four pillars' and was not invited to support local KMT legislator Lai Shih-bao.

It is reported that to avoid further tensions during the major recall, many KMT members were not keen to attend this forum. However, Ma Ying-jeou still went against the party's objections and insisted on participating. Lawyer Chen You-xin questioned on a talk show, stating that if the KMT believes that engaging with China is the right move, then 'why don't they dare to do it'? If they think communication is beneficial, it should still 'add points' even amidst recalls.

Chien Shu-pei further pointed out that Ma Ying-jeou 'no longer cares about the KMT', as he was not included in the KMT’s anti-recall 'four pillars', while KMT legislator Lai Shih-bao, who represents the Wenshan District in Taipei, faces recall. No one from the KMT invited him to show support, indicating a lack of respect, thus forcing Ma Ying-jeou to 'reflect in China'.
