Hong Kong Bans Taiwanese Game ‘Counterattack’, Search Volume Surges

On October 10, the Hong Kong National Security Department announced that the Taiwanese mobile game ‘Counterattack: Fire of War’ promotes ideas of ‘Taiwan independence’ and ‘Hong Kong independence,’ reminding citizens that downloading or making in-game purchases could violate the National Security Law and urging them not to test the law.
However, this announcement led to a surge in discussions and searches for ‘Counterattack: Fire of War,’ propelling it to the number one spot in the App Store download rankings in Hong Kong, after which it was urgently removed. The Hong Kong National Security Department emphasized that the game packages content aimed at inciting armed revolution and fostering hatred against the central and Hong Kong governments.
Despite the warnings, the game's official social media humorously responded, stating, “Thank you for the arrow, Chancellor,” and shared the increase in search popularity.
