China's 3 Aircraft Carrier Era Amid Middle East Conflict: Retired General Warns of Increased Risks for Taiwan

China's newest aircraft carrier, the 'Fujian,' has been in maritime testing for over a year, and recent reports from state media claim that the 'Era of 3 Aircraft Carriers' has arrived, referring to the Liaoning, Shandong, and Fujian carriers. Amid ongoing conflicts between Israel and Iran, retired Major General Li Zhengjie emphasized during the program 'Zhang Yating's Spicy Night Report' that Taiwan should not let its guard down. He warned that the U.S. may need to redeploy its aircraft carriers to the Middle East, and if China's three aircraft carriers manage to breach the Second Island Chain, the U.S. could struggle to respond effectively.

Li stressed that with the advent of this 3 aircraft carrier era, Taiwan must remain vigilant, as currently, only the Carl Vinson remains in the Middle East. The Houthis in Yemen have demonstrated the capability to use drones and missiles to force the U.S. off the Truman, raising concerns about Iran, which might be even more capable, potentially using drones or missiles against the Carl Vinson.

He pointed out that if the U.S. only has the Carl Vinson in the Middle East, it would be inadequate to counter Iran effectively. The Nimitz is currently in the South China Sea, and the Washington is in Yokosuka, Japan; if those two carriers were to head to the Middle East, 'what would Taiwan do then?' Li remarked. The Liaoning and Shandong, having recently operated near Guam, indicate a breakthrough of the Second Island Chain, and if the Fujian is included, the U.S. might find it challenging to respond.
