First Detection of African Swine Fever in Kinmen, Ban on Pork Exports to Taiwan for One Week

First Detection of African Swine Fever in Kinmen, Ban on Pork Exports to Taiwan for One Week

On June 14, a dead pig washed ashore was found at the Tziti coast in Kinmen, and after testing, it was confirmed positive for African swine fever virus. The Ministry of Agriculture promptly announced a ban on the export of pigs and related products from Kinmen to Taiwan and other islands until June 23.

The test results indicated that the virus matched a second genotype of the African swine fever virus prevalent in mainland China. Measures have been initiated, including disinfection of personnel and equipment that came into contact with the dead pig.

Preventive efforts will be intensified in the Kinmen area, and local authorities emphasized that farmers must comply with related prevention measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
