Escalating Israel-Iran Conflict Heightens Internal Division Among US Right

As the conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies, a significant division has emerged within the American right regarding whether to intervene in the military affairs.

According to reports from CNN, the faction around President Donald Trump, known as 'America First,' is clashing intensively with the conservative hawks. The former argues that America should not entangle itself in Middle Eastern conflicts again, while the latter urges Trump to express support for Israel and take a hard stance against Iran.

Reports indicate that Trump has recently consulted several prominent Republican figures by phone, including Senator Lindsey Graham, who supports military intervention, and right-wing media personality Tucker Carlson, who advocates for isolationism. Graham suggested Trump should make a clear stand in favor of Israel to prevent Iran from continuing its nuclear development, whereas Carlson warned that if the U.S. intervenes again in the Middle East, it would only bring greater risks and stated that this war is unrelated to America.

Another conservative yet anti-war Senator, Josh Hawley, also indicated his support for Trump’s cautious stance of not publicly endorsing an attack on Iran. The rift among conservatives is increasingly becoming evident in the media. Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson criticized Fox News for perpetuating war rhetoric in its coverage of the Israel-Iran conflict, questioning whether Trump is influenced by hawks, emphasizing, 'What we need now is calm, not another military adventure.' In contrast, current senior Fox News host Mark Levin vehemently attacked isolationism, claiming that such a stance equates to appeasing Iran and Russia. He stated that if the U.S. does not stand up in the Middle East, it would only allow enemies to grow stronger.

Similarly, Senator Ted Cruz has publicly stated that he has conveyed to Trump the necessity of assisting Israel in combating Iran, stressing that if Iran acquires nuclear weapons, the entire regional situation would spiral out of control, and America should not remain passive.

Analysts point out that this debate over war and peace highlights the longstanding diplomatic contradictions within Trump's camp. On one hand, they emphasize 'America First' and oppose endless overseas wars, while on the other hand, they face strong pressures from hawks and pro-Israel voters within the Republican Party, especially as the Israel-Iran conflict escalates, making the challenge even more pronounced.
