Comparison of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol and Lai Ching-te: Fear of Scrutiny

President Lai Ching-te originally invited Kuomintang Chairman Chu Li-lun and People’s Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang to participate in a national security briefing at the Presidential Office today (18th), but the blue-white camp announced yesterday (17th) that they would not attend, sparking wide discussion. A Facebook fan page compared the newly elected South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol with Lai, indicating that Yoon immediately invited opposition leaders to lunch upon taking office, while Lai is depicted as someone who is very fearful of scrutiny.

The post from 'Political Boss' stated that President Yoon immediately invited the opposition to hold open talks without limiting any issues. In contrast, Lai has focused on heavily targeting the opposition and only allows discussions regarding national security, keeping all meetings closed and providing the opposition no space to express their views at all. It is truly unfortunate for the Republic of China to have such a president.

Additionally, 'Political Boss' quoted Yoon’s remarks: 'What needs to be compromised should be compromised; I hope to implement policies that can be agreed upon by the entire nation to improve the lives of the people. It is impossible for one person to hold 100% of the power alone. I wish for politics to no longer be a war-like confrontation, but rather a political dialogue characterized by mutual respect. I will frequently contact all of you to discuss any issues easily.' In contrast, Lai has been driving a massive campaign against opposition lawmakers, proposing such talks only in his second year and limiting them strictly to national security, demanding closed-door meetings; his attitude towards the opposition is predominantly one of judicial pursuit.
