14-Year-Old Girl in India Discovers 210 cm Hairball After Month of Abdominal Pain

A 14-year-old girl from India suffered from abdominal pain and vomiting for a month before being examined by doctors, who then discovered a 210-centimeter-long "hairball monster" lodged in her abdomen. This successful surgery not only saved her life but also set a world record for the longest hairball removal in medical history.
According to reports, the middle school student hails from a small village in the Agra region. Since sixth grade, she exhibited pica behavior, compulsively eating non-food items such as chalk, dirt, and hair. Recently, her abdominal pain worsened, leading to frequent vomiting, prompting her family to take her to the emergency room at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur.
Doctors performed a CT scan, revealing that her stomach was severely distended and deformed, filled with a large mass of foreign objects extending all the way to the distal small intestine. Dr. Jeevan Kankariya led the surgical team and discovered that the "hairball monster" consisted not only of hair but also rubber bands, thread, wood chips, and even small stones, measuring an astounding 210 centimeters long, a condition medically referred to as "Rapunzel Syndrome."
The surgery lasted two hours, and the doctors successfully removed the hairball intact, without it breaking apart inside her body and without the need for blood transfusions. This achievement has already been submitted to the Guinness World Records for consideration as the record for the "longest hairball removal surgery". Currently, the girl is recovering well and is expected to be discharged soon, but she will require follow-up psychiatric care to prevent a recurrence of her pica behavior.
Medical professionals advise that if a child shows signs of swallowing foreign objects or eating hair, parents should seek medical attention promptly to avoid digestive tract blockages or other serious complications.
