Fire in Spanish Nursing Home Claims One Life and Injures 22, Suspected Link to Oxygen Tank Explosion

A nursing home in Zaragoza, northeastern Spain, experienced a tragic fire late Friday night, resulting in the death of a 93-year-old man and injuries to 22 others, including a critically injured woman in her seventies currently under observation in intensive care.

The incident occurred around 11 PM local time when a fire broke out in a room on the first floor of the nursing home, with initial investigations suggesting it may have been caused by the explosion of a high-pressure oxygen tank used for residents. The rapid spread of thick smoke forced the evacuation of around 50 residents.

Local police, firefighting teams, and medical personnel responded quickly to assist the injured. Unfortunately, the 93-year-old man succumbed to smoke inhalation. The 22 injured were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Investigators are currently looking into the cause of the fire, with initial assumptions pointing towards the explosion of the oxygen tank in the man's room.
