Hungary Receives First Batch of L-39 NGs, Enhancing Flight Training Capabilities

According to a report from the military news website “The Aviationist,” Hungary has recently received its first batch of three L-39 NG light attack training aircraft, marking an important step in enhancing the Hungarian Air Force’s flight training capabilities and air defense strength.

These three L-39 NGs, produced by Aero Vodochody of the Czech Republic, arrived at the Kecskemét Air Base in Hungary on May 30. The Hungarian Air Force plans to acquire a total of 12 L-39 NG aircraft, including 8 trainer variants and 4 reconnaissance variants, with all deliveries expected to be completed by 2028.

The L-39 NG, nicknamed “Skyfox,” is the latest variant in the L-39 series, boasting a maximum speed of 907 km/h and a maximum takeoff weight of 5.6 tons, with a range of 2130 km without external fuel tanks. Its digital cockpit and advanced avionics significantly enhance training efficiency and safety. The aircraft is equipped with five hardpoints for various weapons and sensors, and the reconnaissance variant comes pre-integrated with an MX-15 electro-optical sensor for executing reconnaissance and laser designation tasks.

Prior to the delivery of the first batch, Hungarian pilots had already completed over 100 training flights, allowing for quick adaptation to the L-39 NG upon its return. Following the delivery of these three L-39 NGs, Hungary is expected to receive an additional five trainer variants by the end of this year, with the remaining four reconnaissance variants to be delivered by 2028.
