Chou Tien-chen Claims Runner-up at Indonesian Open, Sets Record for Oldest Finalist

35-year-old Taiwanese badminton player Chou Tien-chen competed in the finals of the Super 1000 Indonesian Open today (8) and, although he fell short of the championship, made history as the oldest male player to reach the final. Chou had previously won the Indonesian Open in 2019 and proves his strength by returning to this stage six years later.

During the match, Chou delivered remarkable plays that thrilled the audience. However, he ultimately could not overcome his opponent's strong defense, finishing as the runner-up. This final marked Chou's 12th meeting with Danish star Antonsson. Though Chou initially led with three game points, Antonsson staged a crucial comeback, leading Chou to a 20-22 defeat. In the second game, Chou briefly held a lead, but unfavorable decisions and declining stamina, plus his opponent's fierce attack, led to a final score of 14-21, denying him a second Indonesian Open title.

Known as “Little Chou,” he is a stalwart in Taiwan's badminton scene and currently the oldest player among the world's top ten ranked players. Despite missing the championship, he set a record as the oldest male finalist in Super 1000 series history. Even after six years, he continues to assert his prowess on the international stage, showcasing his remarkable skill and perseverance.
